The Department of Philosophy and Logic of Armenian State Pedagogical University has initiated a series of events ahead of the World Philosophy Day which is observed annually on

the third Thursday of November. The beginning of the events was announced on Monday, November 18, with a seminar-discussion held at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics.

During the meeting with the professorial staff and students of the Faculty, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Robert Jijyan, referred to the ways of developing students’ independent thinking, considering it one of the major components of the learning process.

“The primary goal of training young specialists is to let them acquire the necessary skills and abilities to independently solve the problems encountered in their area. The most important task of higher education institutions is to foster independent thinking of students and develop abilities for searching answers to the problems in question,” the Professor said adding that the entire learning process should be turned into an analysis of issues and problems.

Robert Jijyan says an efficient way to promote students’ independent thinking is to conduct lectures in a special way by showing students how experienced professionals search answers to problems on their way.

Professor Gagik Demirkhanyan, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, Doctor of Physical and Mathematics Sciences, has his approach to the issue of developing students’ independent thinking, however, he says the methods must be coordinated and united.

The Dean added that the opinions and provisions expressed at the seminar would be taken into consideration and discussions would be continuous if proved effective.
