The teams of Yerevan State University (YSU), State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA), Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University (RAU), Armenian National Agrarian University (ANAU) and ASPU were participating in the tournament.
With a score 4-0, 4-2, 5-1, 0-2, the ASPU team came second, yielding to the YSU team in the final round.
Henrik Mokatsyan, Secretary of the Student Sports Federation, gave out certificates to the participants and winners of the Mini-football Championship.
Talking to armspu.am, Suren Barseghyan, a lecturer at ASPU, Deputy Dean of the Chair of Chess and Sports, confessed that they had encountered great difficulties when forming the team and blamed it for the Armenian stereotype; it is generally believed that girls should not be involved in football.
Mr. Barseghyan stressed that the university leadership had greatly contributed to the formation and establishment of the team; before the championship the team had undergone an intensive ten day period of training at the University’s Aghavnadzor-based Teaching and Training Center.
Regarding their future plans, Suren Barseghyan said the Pedagogical University will soon have a bigger girls’ football team.
The girls’ mini-football team of the Pedagogical University is celebrating its first anniversary today.
