ASPU Students Visit Armenian American Wellness Center
18.12.2013
Recently, second-year students of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography accompanied by Associate Professor Grigor Amalyan visited the Armenian American Wellness

Center (AAWC, Mammography Center). The visit was arranged within the framework of the subject “Histology.”

It was aimed at introducing students to the Center’s mission - to maintain, protect and improve women’s health by detecting precancerous lesions in their earliest stages with the help of diagnostic tests and preventing their further progress.

The visitors got acquainted with the history of the Center and the Departments of Radiology, Family Medicine, Gynecology, as well as the equipment applied there.

Candidate of Medical Science Hovhannes Vardevanyan explained to the students the causes of breast and cervical cancer and the mechanism of their occurrence and detection. He stressed the importance of timely and properly preventive measures to thwart dire consequences if not diagnosed early and treated properly. Mr. Vardevanyan also referred to the fundamentals of a healthy lifestyle and diagnostic methods used at the AAWC.

During the visit, the students became convinced that one of the main preconditions for a healthy lifestyle and healthy family is awareness.  It is also important to apply to a family physician for preventive care services at least once a year.
