Yellow Lines at the Pedagogical for the Visually Impaired
31.03.2012
The Pedagogical University Department of Corrective Pedagogy and Psychology at the Faculty of Special Education, in joint cooperation with the Polish “Come, Come” and the

Armenian “Refuge” NGOs, presented their initiative “Yellow Lines for the Visually Impaired”.

In a short while visually impaired people will be able to easily and safely move about the Pedagogical University on their own.

Taking into consideration the fact that “yellow” is the mostly perceived colour for the visually impaired, thus, the future pedagogues of teaching the blind decided to dye the University staircases yellow.

“In the civilized world all the establishments have their staircases dyed with yellow stripes; while our city is all grey, which additionally hinders the spatial orientation for the visually impaired. However, Pedagogy of the Blind is not yet well developed in Armenia; we have only one specialized school for the blind and visually impaired. Thus, I give a huge importance to our cooperation with the Pedagogical in this wonderful undertaking. I am assured, this will give a good chance for the future pedagogues of the blind to get professional skills and experience,” observes the President of the “Refuge” NGO Swiriden Postella.

The teacher of the Special School N14 for the Visually Impaired after Nikoghayos Tigranyan, Marianna Galstyan also participates in the programme.

“Unfortunately, visually impaired people often get isolated in our society. Therefore, such actions let them a chance to fully become a member of the society,” says Marianna Galstyan and then adds that this kind of support and assistance should be on continuous basis; after all, no one is secured from problems like that.

It is important to mention, that the Pedagogical University is the first establishment that undertakes an action for the effortless movement of the visually impaired.

And last but not least, it’s been already several years that the Special Education Faculty cooperates with the specialists from the Polish “Association of the Blind”. In the framework of this cooperation, students from various Faculties of our University attended lectures on the subject “Support to the Visually Impaired” by the Professor of the PoznaÅ„ University, Marek Jakubowski.

Marek Jakubowski was happy to present the Faculty of Special Education a hundred-years-ago-written musical book in the Braille alphabet; the book will find its most worthy place in the newly established museum of the University.
