Armenian State Pedagogical University hosted on Friday Gagik Makaryan, Chairman of the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia. The visit was arranged within the framework of the University’s internationalisation process.
During the meeting with Ara Yeremyan, ASPU Vice Rector for Personnel and International Cooperation, Christine Tsaturyan, Head of the International Cooperation Department, and Rita Gevorgyan, Head of the Department of Development and Monitoring of Long-term Programmes, Gagik Makaryan said it is necessary to find ways for bringing pedagogical education closer to the requirements of the market as today there is a need for competitive and motivated specialists.
The guest walked about the University, got acquainted with the laboratories and discussed the possibilities of their modernisation.
Rita Gevorgyan, Head of the Department of Development and Monitoring of Long-term Programmes, presented the activities of the University-Employer Cooperation Centre and the measures for providing professional support to graduates.
Talking to old.aspu.am, Gagik Makaryan said it is necessary to find ways to increase the scope of practice. “In the field of Natural and Technical Sciences, as well as Psychology, employers lay emphasis on practical skills, rather than on the diploma,” he said.
“Today’s generation is well informed; hence teachers need to be more informed,” said the chairman of the Republican Union of Employers. Mr. Makaryan hailed the educational reforms at the ASPU and the composition of the teaching staff.
The cooperation between the ASPU and Republican Union of Employers of Armenia will continue in the future.
