How to Orient in the Labour Market
Is the Bachelor’s degree sufficient to find a job? What jobs are offered to art graduates? What does the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia offer for students coming from

regions? All these and other similar questions were discussed between the BA and MA final year students and the guest of the Armenian State Pedagogical University, the Chairman of the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia Mr. Gagik Makaryan.

Mr. Makaryan introduced several targeted directions essential for the labour market and economy the most important of which is the education-labour market connection.

“Today the labour market is in a stagnant state due to the economic problems. Within that context education-labour market parties do not correctly perceive mutual requirements, the educational system operates on the supply principle, while the labour market is unable to clearly formulate its requirements, development tendencies and forecasts”.

Additionally, Mr. Gagik Makaryan presented the outcomes of studies implemented by the Union from 2008 till our days, highlighting that the employer strongly emphasizes the person’s responsibility, confidentiality, honesty, independence, diligence, courage and a number of other features.

“Very often the employers give more preference to the abovementioned characteristic features rather than to the knowledge itself; as for the knowledge of foreign languages, it is not a profession for the employers, they rather consider it an effective tool used in the working process”.

Furthermore, turning to the future teachers, he urged them to be all-knowing and omniscient as the majority of pupils expect to receive answers to their questions at schools.

Among those present at the meeting were the ASPU Vice-Rector Ara Yeremyan and the Head of Development Planning and Monitoring Department Rita Gevorgyan.

In his turn, Mr. Ara Yeremyan strongly advised the students not to regard that meeting as gaining information about the Union.
“This was to some extent a practical offer, while the advice of the Chairman of the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia is essential for the true and correct orientation in the labour market”.

To conclude, Ms. Rita Gevorgyan added that the University-Employer Collaboration Centre has initiated a number of activities and meetings to promote the competitiveness of the ASPU graduates in the labour market.
