After the long lasting illness, the Professor of the Pedagogical University Faculty of Culture, Department of Direction, the RA Honoured Art Worker, the ASSR State Prize Laureate Artashes Hovhannisyan passed away at the age of 75.
From 1961-1966 he studied at the Yerevan Fine Arts and Theatre Institute, Department of Direction; he started his creative career at the Ijevan National Theatre, after which he worked at the Dramatic Theatre after Hrachya Ghapalnyan where he staged the “Waltz of the Toreadors”, “Murky Depths”, “Autumn Sun” and a number of other pieces.
What is more, Mr. Hovhannisyan staged performances in Tbilisi, Beirut, Aleppo, at the Yerevan Young Spectator’s Theatre, the Gyumry Theatre after Vardan Atchemyan, and other theatres.
He went on tours in Jūrmala, Sochi-Burgas, Abkhazia, and Artsakh, as well as in the regions and towns of the country.
As a matter of fact, Mr. Artashes Hohannisyan was the first one to create the non-state theatre- the “Norq” Theatre-Studio in 1987 which operated for quite a long time. Likewise, in the last years off his life he founded the “Teqeyan” theatre troupe.
And last but not least, the prominent Director-Pedagogue Artashes Hovhannisyan was taught at the Pedagogical University from 1985 till our days.
