Chemically Explosive Materials Evacuated from the Pedagogical
05.04.2012
Throughout years the Pedagogical University has been in a chemically explosive zone. The thing is, since its establishment various chemical materials from the Soviet Union times

have been amassed in the basement of the chemical laboratory of the University.

And now, the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations assisted the Pedagogical to evacuate the above mentioned materials and to preserve the University’s security.

The Ministry activities on the task were run by the Head of the Department of the Population and Regional Protection, Colonel Hovhannes Yemishyan. The rescuers, maintaining all the safety rules, evacuated a large amount of chemical materials from the University basement in just a few hours.

As a matter of fact, the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography Svetlana Hovakimyan considers the storage of the chemical materials in the University rather hazardous. “In fact, part of the materials was not even identified; more than that, there were even overdue and obsolete materials. I think this occasion has been arranged in a very due time. The basement was moved from place to place throughout years as a result of which most of the materials got damaged. And now, all that material was kept in an emergency building, which increased the danger even more”, added the Dean of the Faculty.

By the way, according to the obtained agreement, all the evacuated materials will be handed over to the Institute of Fine Organic Chemistry after L. Mnjoyan, where they will undergo special processing and corresponding laboratory examinations.
