Recently, first- and second-year graduate students of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography headed by Samvel Pipoyan, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor at the Department of Biology and its Teaching Methods, conducted their research practices in the basin of Lake Sevan. The visit was arranged within the framework of the subject “The Fauna of RA reservoirs and the stages of their formation.”
The main purpose of this stage of practice was to familiarize the future biologists with the ecological condition of the lake and make observations in the surrounding area. The students also observed the behaviour of living organisms in the Sevan basin in order to study and identify their biological features at the laboratory.
The practice was held in the northern and eastern coastal areas. The group was also taken to the Sevan and Artanish peninsulas, and the coastal areas of Jill and Tsapatar villages.
“The practice helped the students enrich their knowledge of biological and ecological features of the animals living in Lake Sevan and its neighbouring areas and gave them practical information on biodiversity and its preservation. It also improved their skills at gathering and processing of hydrobiological material and assessing the impact of environmental factors on water coexistence,” Professor Samvel Pipoyan told old.aspu.am.
He assured us that similar practices not only contribute to the development of new professional qualities of students, but also help them use the theoretical knowledge acquied at the University in practice.
