“The University history is not only the generations of all times, but also the scientific and pedagogical outstanding figures who were teaching there; among them important role is given to Ashot Abrahamyan.
Every period has its heroes and manifestations; but there are still figures for all times, such as Ashot Abrahamyan,’ the ASPU Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan mentioned at symposium arranged by the Faculty of Philology on the 95th anniversary of the Associate Member of the ASSR NAS Ashot Abrahamyan.
The Rector also added that the Professor continues giving quality to the Pedagogical University with his image, exceptional honesty and solemn title of Scientist. “We are not saying that Ashot Abrahamyan worked here; he is always here with us through his student and postgraduates”.
What is more, Rouben Mirzakhanyan highlighted the importance of organizing the symposiums from another perspective as well. Thus, besides using the scientific works, it was also important to know him closer, and this could be done only by the students of the scientist for whom it was a real luck to be taught by him.
In addition, the Dean of the Philological Faculty Mr. Yury Davtyan expressed his acknowledgements for participation to all those present at the symposium dedicated to the eminent Philologist after which he analysed Ashot Abrahamyan’s note “Manual of Old Armenian”.
“Mr. Abrahamyan was so well aware of old Armenian as if he were born in 5th century. At the same time he knew history of his nation just as well as he knew the language and old Armenian; he was a great patriot and was proud to have chances to tell about the history of his nation”, Mr. Yury Davtyan mentioned quoting one of the most remembered commandments of his mentor- land is pride, the motherland and power.
In addition, the RA NAS Associate Members, Professors Aelita Dollukhanyan and Lavrenti Hovhannisyan referred to the significance of Ashot Abrahamyan’s translation on Yeznik Koghbatsi’s “Refutation of the Sects” and made observations and remarks referring to several parts.
“Several generations acquired skills and will continue studying the ancient language that had a great role in Ashot Abrahamyan’s heritage and was dedicated to old Armenian,” Professor Doloukhanyan mentioned adding that the preamble of translations and notes of the well-known Philologist have become one of the achievements of Armenian studies of the second half of 20th century.
More to the point, Professor Edick Mkrtchyan was one of the students of Ashot Abrahamyan and considers himself lucky only for having the chance to listen to and enjoy the Professor’s live speech.
“I was captivated by him from the very beginning; he differed from his contemporaries due to his kindness and good-will even with the manner he checked knowledge.
His lectures were so interesting to listen to, that sometimes he sounded like a doctor or a philosopher; we should learn from him in all times”.
Likewise, Associate Professors Lilit Hovsepyan and Paruyr Sahakyan spoke about the modern Armenian translations of Stepanos Orbelyan’s artistic excerpts of History and notes; additionally, Mr. Ashot Galstyan spoke about the linguistic backgrounds of memoirs dedicated to Ashot Abrahamyan which were the reflection of reminiscences of the authors.
“It seems as if you feel the richness and the multiple shades of his speech, and his virtuous portrait rises in your memory”.
Among those present at the symposium were Ashot Abrahamyan’s students of different years, lecturers of the Faculty, students, as well as the elder daughter of the philologist Ms. Nairouhi Abrahamyan, who expressed her content for organizing the symposium and mentioned, “Thus, the students remember and praise the scientist’s merit as well as get infected with the “Armenian sense” Ashot Abrahamyan had”.
