KHACHATUR ABOVYAN ARMENIAN STATE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY

Today, within the framework of the International Day for Monuments and Sites, a virtual exhibition headed “Medieval Armenian Architecture” was launched at the Museum of the Pedagogical University. 

The aim of the joint exhibition organized by the RA Ministry of Culture “Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum-Reservations”, the Armenian State Pedagogical University, the ASPU Department of Museology and Monument Studies and the Department of History of Armenia together with the ASPU Museum was to once again introduce those present, especially the youth, with the monuments located in Eastern and Western Armenia and in Artsakh.

The opening address was presented by the Acting Head of the Department of History of Armenia Mr. Ashot Piliposyan who reminded the sacrament of the day pointing out the impressive exhibition arranged at the APSU, and urged everybody to follow their genetic memory and to consign historical values from generations to generations.

In her turn the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Ms. Srbouhi Gevorgyan also noticed that the aim of the exhibition was to re-evaluate and to bring today’s generation closer to the historical and cultural values of a nation with a long of history. Likewise, the Vice Rector noticed that Armenian architectural values formulated in the early ages of Christianity have not lost their actuality also till our days; moreover, they are of particular interest both for identification of genetic, cognitive, philosophic content and for its ancient, esoteric concept. 

During the visit the guests were introduced with presentations in Armenian and English languages; actually, it is intended to make numerous copies of the electronic version of the exhibition and to distribute them in the country’s schools.

“Usually when we speak about Armenia, we call it an open-air museum; since 17th century numerous English, German and French travelers have written about their impressions and reprinted the images of monuments”, the Head of the Department of Museology and Monument Studies Mr. Lavrenti Barseghyan observed adding that the best form of manifestation of love towards the motherland is protection of its monuments. 

The Deputy Head of the “Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum-Reservations” spoke about the problems of protection of monuments stressing out that in fact, there are a great number of tasks to be implemented and major financial investments to be made.
