Celebrating the International Dance Day
29.04.2014

On 29 April the whole world, as well as Armenia, are celebrating the International Dance Day; this year the celebration was marked with the event organized on the 115th anniversary of the devoted dancer Vahram Aristakesyan held at the Aram Khachatryan Concert Hall.

Numerous dance troupes, such as the State Dance Ensemble of Armenia, the honoured Song and Dance Ensemble of Armenia after Tatul Altunyan, dance ensembles “Berd”, “Maratouk”, “Kanaz”, and the Dance Ensemble of the Pedagogical University “Sasna Tsrer” came together to congratulate and to bow down before the prominent dancer at the event organized on the initiative  of the RA Ministry of Culture, the Armenian National Union of Dance and Choreography, and the Armenian State Pedagogical University Department of Choreography.

On this occasion, the Dance Ensemble of the Pedagogical University “Sasna Tsrer” presented the performance of the ASPU Associate Professor Gohar Abrahamyan.

In his turn, the Head of the ASPU Department of Choreography Mr. Karen Gevorgyan congratulated dance amateurs, prominent figures in the sphere and current dancers on their professional holiday wishing them endless energy and dazzling imagination.

In addition, the ASPU Head of Choreography highly praising Vahram Aristakesyan’s contribution to bringing together, arranging and performing the Western Armenian folk dances, considered the day with double celebrations.

“We are all his spiritual descendants; we have a lot to learn from the creator of the dance group of the Sasuntsi from Ashnak, the founder of the Armenian Choreography College. The ASPU Department of Choreography is profoundly studying the art of Aristakesyan, this is a good opportunity for our students to once again get familiar with the connoisseur of Armenian folk dances”.

We would like to remind that the International Dance Day is celebrated with the assistance of the World Dance Council; in fact, in 1982 the UNESCO announced this day in honor of the French ballet master Jean-Georges Noverre born on 29 April.
