Ara Hakobyan’s World on Paintings
30.04.2014

On 29 April, the first individual exhibition of the ASPU Head of the Department of History and Theory of Art and Culturology of the Faculty of Art Education Mr. Ara Hakobyan’s paintings opened at the House of Painters in Yerevan; among those present at the exhibition were the ASPU teaching-professorial staff, students and art amateurs.

The President of the RA Union of Artists Mr. Karen Aghamyan made his opening address with an observation that the exhibition seemed to be a complete picture with the reflection of the painter’s individuality; it is obvious that he is not an artist shut in his studio, he loves the world, he is allured with the nature and has a clear view of the nature in his motherland.

“I was always amazed with the culture of love and sincerity Mr. Ara Hakobyan treated nature with. It is complicated to be an art critic- researcher, to run the functions of the Head of Department, and to paint all at the same time; nevertheless, due to love he had for painting he is perfectly combining all of the above-mentioned,” mentioned the NAA Associate Member, Doctor, Professor Vigen Ghazaryan.

The latter also emphasized that classical art apparently underlies the painter’s works. Major contribution to this fact was made thanks to the apprenticeship with a prominent professor in Venice.

Afterwards, the Director of the Art Institute at the RA NAS, Doctor of Art, Professor Ararat Aghasyan in his turn notices that Ara Hakobyan’s works are not foreseen for the market; they are rather prepared on his personal call, his unique lifestyle and the way of self-expression, reflection of emotions, depiction of what he saw and felt.

Besides, he stressed out the fact that the painter does not follow his contemporaries and instead of creating avant-garde and modern pieces he demonstrates courage by presenting works in line with the principles of Armenian realistic art.

“I familiarized myself with complete works of Ara Hakobyan today; I could see a variety of artistic genres in his creations, such as portraits, seascapes, still life and landscapes, and event compositional works.

He has a fluent touch and a sharp eye, he is honest and sincere in his creations and this is not by a chance; he was eventually, born in the family of the art expert Hravard Hakobyan”, Ararat Aghasyan added.

The painter’s first exhibition comprises around 61 pieces mainly of the recent years, which the artist himself considers as the greatest contribution acquired from his teachers.

He also noted that an exhibition is a kind of examination that will open his art to the visitors and students.

The exhibition is open until 5 may.
