Recently, the Student Council of Armenian State Pedagogical University in cooperation with the Department of Chess and Sports organised a hiking trip to the Dilijan mountains. About 30 undergraduate and graduate students of the University climbed 7-8 hills and visited Haghartsin monastery.
With the help of a mountaineering instructor, the students got familirised with the area and the rules of safe hiking – tips they should follow before and during a hike, hiking guidelines for safety and ways to deal with an expedition. “I hope that our cooperation with the Pedagogical University will expand in the future. Great is also the role of students, their dedication to mountaineering, as well as physical and mental contributions,” the experienced mountaineer said in conversation with old.aspu.am.

Nersik Margaryan, Chairman of the ASPU Student Council, emphasised the importance of similar trips and said, “The main purpose is to encourage, support and develop mountaineering among those students who are interested in the sport.”
The group of students participating in the trip is called “Explorers,” as in addition to climbing mountains, the students also explore Nature, trying to reveal its wonders.
Hrant Patrikyan, Professor of the Department of Chess and Sports, also stressed the importance of the program and said, “The hike helped reveal students’ physical fitness. I am glad that the future educators passed the test with honour. They climbed 7-8 hills walking about 1.5-2 km. I think the hikes should be continued in the future enabling students to climb greater heights and uphold the honour of the Pedagogical University.”
