“Triple holiday is of vital significance for Armenians”
09.05.2014

May 9 is a triple victory day for Armenians. On the occasion of the holiday, students and members of the teaching staff of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) as well as veterans of the University, who participated in the Great Patriotic War, visited Victory Park in Yerevan.

Before visiting the Park, the group laid flowers at the monument to the Artsakh war heroes in the territory of the University and then headed to Victory Park.

They laid flowers at the Eternal Flame, bowed their heads to honour the victims of World WarII and observed a moment of silence in their memory.

Among the ASPU representatives visiting Victory Park was also veteran RozaPashinyan, a former lecturer at ASPU, who spent two months on the frontline with the delegation sent to Crimea. She remembers with excitement the happy moment when they heard the news of the victory and says the joy was indescribable.

The veteran says she has been in the centre of attention throughout her life and has been surrounded by love and care but today war veterans are only remembered and honoured on Victory Day, May 9.

“May does not only celebrate the rebirth of nature, but it is also a month of victories. Although I lost many of my relatives in the war, including my father, every year on May 9, I come to this park withan unexplainable joy,” KhachikSargsyan, Professor at the Department of Socio-Economic Geography and Teaching Methods of Geography, told old.aspu.am.

In his turn, EdikGevorgyan, Dean of the Faculty of History and Jurisprudence, said May is a symbolic month for Armenians; it is not only a month of victories, but also a month of peace and creative work. “The token of the triple holiday is very great for a small nation like ours; it strengthens the eternal durability of our people and creation of an independent state,” he said stressing the role of the Pedagogical University in the mission of transferring to future generations the symbol of May victories - maintenance of independence.

May is a month of great victories and is of great importance for Armenians. It marks the victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), the liberation of Shushi in 1992 and the formation of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Defense Army.
