Ruben Marukhyan: Every day, ask yourself the question, “Who am I?”
13.05.2014

At the initiative of the newly formed literary club of the Faculty of Primary Education, Armenian State Pedagogical University today hosted writer, playwright, actor and director Ruben Marukhyan, who is best known for his book “The New Adventures of Chikareli.”

During the meeting, the participants shared their opinions on the book and spoke about the lessons they had learnt from it. Inspired by the book, the students had even written a song.

“We should live a true, honest and upright life… In the book, I saw everyone and even me… Instead of criticizing others we should try to spread the light we have within us. We should start from self-purification,” the students said, analyzing the book.

Ruben Marukhyan did not conceal his admiration for the students, their activity and ability to make sober judgments. “I have met with numerous readers, but this meeting was unique – I heard a smart, warm and insightful analysis,” said the writer.

During the meeting, the writer also spoke about his literary and creative path, gave students helpful advice citing examples from his life and calling their attention to the commandments of not lying, stealing and betraying. In order to preserve their “ego” and achieve their goals in life, the writer advised the students to start the day by asking themselves “Who am I?”

Eva Mnatsakanyan, Associate Professor at the Department of Native Language and its Teaching Methods, who heads the newly formed literary club, said tête-a-tête meetings and conversations with writers not only provide students with energy, but also give them new tips and ideas, shaping their world view and thinking.

“Students of the Faculty of Primary Education are especially interested in children’s literature; they will work with the blank blackboard of children’s souls, shaping a system of values, culture of speech and love for literature in them,” she said.

At the end of the meeting, the attendees were told that the writer’s new book entitled “What Can Be Done?” will come out in the near future.
