26.05.2014

Armenian State Pedagogical University today hosted Professor of Armenian Studies Dr. Balint Kovacs, who visited the University at the invitation of the Department of Armenian History, Faculty of History and Jurisprudence.

The Hungarian professor has visited Armenia several times, but this was his first visit to the Pedagogical University.  During his meeting with ASPU students and lecturers, Mr Kovacs spoke about Armenian libraries in Transylvania in the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as the role of the Armenian community in Hungary.

Balint Kovacs also presented the programme “Armenians in Eastern and Central Europe” launched at the Leipzig University in Germany, which aims to study the role and activities of Armenians amongst different minorities in Eastern and Central Europe.

Speaking about ASPU students, the guest did not conceal his admiration for them. “The students forgave me for my poor Armenian which made the meeting friendly and lively,” he said.

Edik Grigoryan, Dean of the Faculty of History and Jurisprudence, thanked Balint Kovacs for the visit and for continuing the activities of his countryman Edmond Schütz, a well-known Hungarian Armenologist, Professor of Caucasian Studies. “Armenian historians appreciate the work of foreign Armenologists: they consider the facts not only as foreigners but also from a true perspective,” said Mr Grigoryan.
