ASPU students visit National Assembly
31.05.2014

Representatives of the Student Council of the Faculty of History and Jurisprudence of Armenian State Pedagogical University visited Armenian National Assembly on the occasion of First Republic Day.

The group was received by Vice-Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov, who answered students’ questions concerning Armenia’s foreign and domestic political priorities, regional developments and security issues.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, the interlocutors discussed different issues related to the political, social, economic and other sectors. They also focused on the issues raised at the Astana-hosted meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, Artsakh’s possible representation in the Eurasian Union and the expected results, President Serzh Sargsyan’s decision to invite Turkey’s President to Armenia on April 24, 2015, to participate in the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

When commenting on Serzh Sargsyan’s decision, the NA vice-speaker said Armenia will be a winner in any case. “We are for establishing relations with Turkey without preconditions. Armenian President’s step is a flexible diplomatic move which the Turkish diplomacy cannot bypass. Our enemy is forced to face the historical fact and acknowledge the crime committed by their ancestors against Armenians in the Ottoman Turkey and compensate for the Armenian Genocide.”

Eduard Sharmazanov also spoke about the symbolism of the May triple holiday and underlined that in order to be able to respond to the present-day challenges the new generation should be aware of the heroic feats performed by Armenians in the course of history and, encouraged by these feats, struggle against ideological and military harassment of foreign forces.
