At the initiative of the Student Council of Armenian State Pedagogical University, the swimming course intended for the freshmen of the University ended with an interfaculty competition. The event involved students from different faculties.
At the Aquatek sport and health center, the students competed in three swimming styles- freestyle stroke, backstroke and breaststroke. Astghik Avdalyan, a student of the Faculty of Art Education, came first in the female competition, and Aram Manukyan, a student of the Faculty of Culture, was named winner in the male competition. Christine Nanyan (Faculty of Culture) and Vardan Epremyan (Faculty of Art Education) were second, while Margarita Khudaverdyan (Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology) and Tigran Karapetyan (Faculty of History and Law) were third, respectively.
Vardges Hovhannisyan, a trainer at the sport and health center, had worked with the students for nearly a year, teaching them the nuances of swimming. He is pleased with the results of one-year work. “The course aims at teaching students the rules of swimming which is an important prerequisite for a healthy lifestyle,” he said and hailed the University’s approach of attaching importance to sports.
Arusyak Khodikyan, a student of the Faculty of Philology, attended the course with great pleasure although she is good at swimming. He is glad that the University provides students an opportunity to do sports and relax.
Future historian Tigran Karapetyan, who came third in the competition, thanked the organizers of the course in the name of his coursemates and said the competition was a good opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in the best way.
“Swimming is a practical sport, and people need it every moment. In one year, students learnt a lot of skills, and those who can swim developed their knowledge on swimming,” Suren Barseghyan, Deputy Head of the Department of Chess and Sports, told old.aspu.am. He added that in the coming year, swimming courses will be organized on a voluntary basis and will involve different students.
