KHACHATUR ABOVYAN ARMENIAN STATE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY

The first volume of the recently published scientific methodical journal “Main Issues in Special Education” was officially presented today at the Scientific Library of Armenian State Pedagogical University. The event was attended by the teaching staff of the University and representatives from various organizations in the field of special education. 

In his opening speech, the chairman of the editorial board, ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan underlined that the publication of the periodical is the continuation of the great attention that the Pedagogical University pays to special education. “To determine the level of development of any society it is enough to pay attention to the attitude towards persons with special needs. Countries with high level of political and economic growth keep these issues in the focus of everyday attention, carrying out great psychological work with the public,” he said.

Mr Mirzakhanyan emphasized the publication of the journal from different perspectives: first of all it was a kind of approbation that gave an opportunity to present theoretical knowledge and hear the opinion of specialists of the sphere, and if the standards are met, it will become international in the course of time. 

Srbuhi Gevorgyan, ASPU Vice-Rector for Educational and Scientific Affairs, said in her turn, that the journal is yet another achievement for the University which summarizes the recent achievements in the field.

Armine Avagyan, Dean of the Faculty of Special Education, noted once again that from the very beginning the Faculty intended to carry out educational and scientific work: until recently ASPU students had their articles published in different collections. “This is a good opportunity to meet with specialists of the sphere, deepen cooperation among them, thereby filling the existing gap,” she said. 

Robert Azaryan, the editor-in-chief of the journal, thanked the University administration, the editorial board and authors of the articles and expressed hope that in the next issues of the journal readers will have a chance to see the article of other organizations as well.

At the end of the presentation, the attendees watched a video about the activities of the Faculty of Special Education.
