Educational hustle and bustle is perceived these days at all institutions of higher education at the threshold of the 2014-2015 academic year. The excited parents gathered around the lists of applicants posted on one of the buildings of Armenian State Pedagogical University were looking for the names of their children on the lists, with an earnest desire to see them students in a month’s time. Similarly, the applicants were waiting in joyful hope of becoming ASPU students.
The number of applicants wishing to become educators was great again: 1487 applicants had applied for 51 specialties. Eighty-three of them will study in the tuition-free system, while 1237 will have to pay tuition fees. The figures were provided by the Republican Commission on entrance examinations after summarizing the results of the first stage.
Mkrtich Ghukaysyan, Executive Secretary responsible for the 2014-2015 academic year admissions, explains the growing interest in the ASPU as compared with the previous years and other institutions of higher education with the fact that the Pedagogical University is among the leading universities in the country with the number of applicants.
Speaking about the professions that are in great demand among applicants, Mr Ghukaysyan said they show keen interest in Pedagogy and Methodology (elementary education), Pedagogy and Methodology (preschool), Biology and Choreographic Pedagogy if compared with science-related specialties.
He added that there are also ‘privileged’ applicants – children of fallen parents, children with disabilities, parentless children [under 23] and young men demobilized from the army over the past three years.
Applicants from the Diaspora will participate in the next phase of the entrance examinations for the academic year 2014/15, during which an interview will be held to check the knowledge of applicants in accordance with admission procedure for foreign nationals.
Mkrtich Ghukaysyan also informed us that first-year students can find the number of auditorium and building of the corresponding faculty next to their names and surnames on the lists. Additional information on entrance examinations can be found at the Admissions Department.
By a decision of the Ministry of Education and Science, all entrants who have been left out of the competition can participate in an additional competition for vacant seats to be held between July 15 and July 20 (at 6 p.m.) by filling in a new application form at the University that has vacant seats.
The Pedagogical University congratulates its first-year students, wishing them effective educational process and commitment to the lofty title of a teacher.
