Summer School project implemented by Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), University of Oulu (Finland) and Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences with the support of the Youth Foundation of Armenia continues in Armenia.
The participants spent another day full of interesting programmes and events. This time they visited the Matenadaran, the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts named after Mesrop Mashtots, the creator of Armenian alphabet. Accompanied by a guide, the foreign students got acquainted with ancient manuscripts preserved inside the building.

“Today we saw the largest and smallest books, became acquainted with ancient manuscripts. It was very interesting to hear the history of the invention of Armenian letters: the manuscripts stored here date back to ancient times. Everything was wonderful and impressive. We do not have such manuscripts in our country. We really had a busy day and learnt many interesting things about the history of your country,” Skaiste Miskinyte, a student of the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences, told armspu.am.
Another Lithuanian student also shared her impressions of the Matenadaran and the things she had seen there. “I could see pride in the eyes of the guide when she was telling the history of the creation of Armenian letters. I was also delighted to see how Armenians love their country and are proud to live here,” said Sandra Gouchute.
She was also impressed by the Cafesjian Center for the Arts. “Besides ancient values, you also have new and modern values. Grigor Khanjian mural made a deep impression on me. The guide told us that Grigor Khanjian had met with Diego Rivera, the husband of [Mexican painter] Frida Kahlo, who is one of the best artists for me. This was the best day during my stay in Armenia,” she said.
The participants of the Summer School programme also got acquainted with the history of Armenian State Pedagogical University.

Stina Pakone, a student of the University of Oulu in Finland, found many similarities between her university and the ASPU. “When I learnt that your University is an old university I expected to see a bigger building but later I was told that you have many other buildings besides the main one. When I was told about the quality of education at your university, again I found many similarities between the two educational institutions. We both give preference to independent thinking. It is very important that we do not try to learn new things only by listening to others but also through communication,” the Finnish student told armspu.am.
After a walk around the Armenian University, the students enjoyed the performance of the ASPU orchestra.
“I liked the orchestra very much I was also delighted to hear songs by Nare - a participant of the Summer School. She has a wonderful voice. We do not have such an orchestra at our University. I greatly enjoy my days spent here, in Armenia,” Sunny Kuti, another participant of the Sumer School, told armspu.am.
