The first sitting of the Academic Council was held on the threshold of the 2014-2015 academic year. The meeting started with traditional congratulations, with ASPU Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan congratulating all those who are celebrating their jubilees in August. Then Mr Mirzakhanyan bestowed the title of Professor on Juliette Gulamiryan, Sergey Aghajanyan and Rouben Yerznkyan, and the title of Associate Professor on Narine Stepanyan and Laura Avagyan.
Members of the Academic Council unanimously approved the meeting agenda which, first of all, focused on the 2014-2015 academic year work plan. The draft plan was unanimously approved by the Council members.
Tigran Ayvazyan, ASPU Vice-Rector for Education Quality and Distance Learning Education, dwelt [in his report] on the University's strategic plan and presented the work done in 2014.
Speaking about the implementation of the strategic plan objectives, Mr Ayvazyan singled out the most important ones - to ensure the efficiency and financial stability of the University’s management system, support implementation of anti-corruption policy, introduce [in the educational process] organizational principles of inclusive education, improve career guidance and orientation mechanisms, involve students in different activities of the University, etc.
Tigran Ayvazyan also presented the steps taken to develop employee potential, emphasizing the need to promote their professional, research and creative growth.
The large-volume work carried out by the faculties comprised a significant part of the University’s strategic plan, and its results were presented at the Academic Council meeting by Rita Gevorgyan, Head of Education Quality Management and Control Department. She stressed that the outcome was consistent with accreditation processes and meet the Bologna process standards.
The results of secret ballot elections for the University department heads were also announced during the Council meeting. Director of the National Gallery of Armenia, Professor Paravon Mirzanyan, was elected Head of the Department of Fine Arts with a 51-2 vote. Two ballots were considered invalid. Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Anoush Yeghiazaryan, was elected Head of the Department of Design and Decorative Arts with 52 votes in favour and 2 against.
Further, Srbouhi Gevorgyan, ASPU Vice-Rector for Educational and Scientific Affairs, submitted one doctoral dissertation and five PhD topics to the Academic Council for approval. The Council also approved the publication of one book.
Members of the Academic Council also approved the draft regulations of ASPU’s Basic School No 57 after Vahan Totovents.
