“For me, there are three colours - red, blue and apricot; all others are shades,” Nikol Aghababyan, a lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), said on one occasion.
An exhibition of the lecturer’s paintings has opened at the Artists' Union of Armenia on the occasion of his 50th anniversary.
Hranush Hakobyan, Minister of Diaspora of Armenia, Seyranuhi Geghamyan, Head of the Department of Contemporary Arts at the RA Ministry of Culture, painters and art lovers came to congratulate the author on the jubilee.

Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan awarded the acclaimed artist with the Arshile Gorky medal on the occasion of his 50th anniversary, for his success and numerous achievements in painting, as well as his efforts to spread Armenian art and culture in the Diaspora.
“Knowing Nikol Aghababyan personally, I feel deep respect for him. Three important qualities are characteristic of him: he is a good man, a great patriot and a unique artist,” Minister Hranush Hakobyan said stressing Aghababyan’s willingness to assist the Ministry.
She also expressed hope that with his prolific brush the painter would continue to present and amaze art lovers who are impressed by the fascinating nature of Armenia.
In her turn, Seyranuhi Geghamyan granted Mr Aghababyan the highest honor of the RA Ministry of Culture - Gold Medal.
“Today, we shall bear Nikol’s bright colours in our hearts. The artist is often asked what school he belongs to. I can assure you that his school is called the nature of Armenia. He is inspired by Armenia’s nature: its colours pass through the prism of the painter’s soul, becoming a noble art,” Seyranuhi Geghamyan said adding that one of the brushes that revive Armenia belongs to Nikol Aghababyan.
The painter was also congratulated by Karen Aghamyan, Chairman of the Artists' Union of Armenia, Sergo Yeritsyan, Chairman of the “Lorva Dzor” Patriotic Union, Head of the State Language Inspectorate at the Ministry of Education and Science, intellectuals and guests.
“You will never confuse Nikol Aghababyan’s works. The secret lies in his personality and optimism,” said Karen Aghamyan. He is convinced that time will come when art lovers will start to study the painter’s art more profoundly.
Congratulating the painter on the anniversary, Sergo Yeritsyan noted that Nikol Aghababyan tries to assemble the colours spread in Armenia and Artsakh and make it the property of art lovers. “The combination of colours gives the quality which is best known as “Nikol’s work.”
Nikol Aghababyan had brought to the exhibition hall all corners of Armenia with new freshness and in a Nikol-like style with clean and pure colours close to his heart.
The painter thanked the organizers of the exhibition and all those who appreciate his art, saying that writers, artists and musicians must only preach the beauty and it is difficult and even impossible not to be inspired by the beauty and a painter’s word in Armenian highlands.
The exhibition will run through September 13. Over 80 works of the painter are put on the display, those including old and new paintings.
