
Russian philology has lost one of its greatest devotees in the person of Gayane Shaghgamyan. The beloved Professor died on September 11.
For many years, Gayane Shaghgamyan headed the Department of Russian Language at Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan. During her years in office, the Department became a leading centre for Russian language teaching methodology and Russian Studies.
Gayane Shaghgamyan also made great contributions to the training of teachers and improvement of their professional quality.
The professor also wrote numerous textbooks, manuals, scientific and methodological papers.
Her professional activity was evaluated in due order: by a decree of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Gayane Shaghgamyan was awarded the title of Distinguished Educator of the Republic of Armenia.
