
A new assessment system to evaluate students’ knowledge has been introduced at the Pedagogical University aiming to certify that the students have enough knowledge, skills and abilities to be qualified in the given profession, to check for the lack in their knowledge or skills.
Within the system it is possible to organize commensurate learning process by regularly checking and assessing knowledge to facilitate the process of acquiring thematic skills and abilities by learning and digesting separate sections of the course and to improve students’ independent and extracurricular work.
The project of “The new procedure of checking and assessing students’ knowledge and its adoption at the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan” was approved by the Academic Council in 2012.
In the academic year 2013-2014, the procedure was piloted at only two first year courses at the ASPU Faculties of Primary and Special Education.
“Taking into account the objectives and the requirements on the procedure presented by the students and the teaching team, the Education Reforms and Quality Department submitted the new updated version of the procedure to the Academic Council. According to the decision of the Academic Council the new procedure of assessment was installed in all BA courses of the University for academic year 2014-2015”, the Head of the Educational Reforms and Quality Department Mr. Mkrtich Avagyan mentioned in his speech to the old.aspu.am .

Moreover, he also added that in order to make the procedure more effective a new assessment system will be introduced including electronic registration book, summary, etc.
Mr. Mkrtich Avagyan also informed that a working group created under the supervision of the Vice-Rector of Education Quality and Distant Learning Mr. Tigran Ayvazyan, had been having meetings with the Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, quality responsible bodies and the teaching- professorial team
The Head of the Education Reforms and Quality Department also informed that based on the questions raised during the previous meetings a documents had been prepared containing the new approaches of checking and assessing students’ knowledge generated through the questions&answers about the new procedure.
