“An erudite and knowledgeable citizen has been the wealth of our country for thousands of years,” Eduard Sharmazanov, a member of the ASPU Board, Vice-Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, said during the opening of an electronic reading room at the ASPU.
The parliament official congratulated the University students and teaching staff on the opening of another reading room which is equipped with modern technical facilities. He stressed that competence is a necessary precondition in the education sector given the challenges of the 21st century.

“Armenia's future is in the hands of the new, well-educated and literate generation. It is high time we armed ourselves with maximum knowledge,” said Mr Sharmazanov. He promised to visit the reading room in his spear time and recommended the presentees to read books on a daily basis.
ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan addressed the future educators calling them his colleagues and advised them to frequently visit the newly-opened reading room. “Only in the presence of students will the reading room be filled with life and content,” he said.
Srbuhi Gevorgyan, ASPU Vice-Rector for Educational and Scientific Affairs, also joined the congratulations, emphasizing the University’s policy of opening digital libraries in the context of educational reforms and knowledge-based economy.
“According to the modern competence-based approach, saving time is an important factor and the existence of such a reading hall, which is rich in professional, foreign and auxiliary literature, will contribute to the improvement of teaching resources and save time,” the Vice-Rector said, considering the opening of the reading hall a great achievement for students.

The newly-opened reading-hall has a scientific-technical orientation. Here one can find over 4000 pieces of professional, foreign-language and supporting literature, new computers as well as pedagogical and psychological manuals. The reading room can seat up to 60 people. It also provides access to the Internet.
