October 13 was a real celebration for the first graders of ASPU Primary School No.57 after Vahan Totovents: they had found the key to the Armenian Alphabet created by Mesrop Mashtots, commonly known as Mesrop's alphabet.
The event was accompanied by poems, songs, promises … and doves hovering in the classroom and announcing the birth of letter “A” – the first letter of the Armenian alphabet.
The pupils staged the tale “The Birth of Letter A,” promising to keep their Mother Tongue clean and pure and to open the doors of science with the key to Mesrop's alphabet.
School Principal Naira Toghanyan congratulated the pupils and their parents, considering the event one of the most important and memorable events in their lives. “Now that the key is in your hands, you have a good opportunity to open new doors and overcome detours,” she said.
Form master Lilit Abreyan also congratulated the children on the occasion and urged them to arm themselves with boundless knowledge, spare no effort in their studies as ‘their work will be crowned with success.’ “Letter “A” was your first step into the holy temple of Mashtots,” she said.
At the end of the event, Lilit Abreyan gave the pupils certificates for ‘acquiring’ the key to Mesrop’s Alphabet.
