ASPU hosts Professor Armen Marsoobian from Southern Connecticut State University
14.10.2014

Armenian State Pedagogical University today hosted Armen Marsoobian, a professor of philosophy at Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, US, and chairperson of the Philosophy Department of the same University, who delivered a lecture for ASPU students.

Mr Marsoobian expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and said it was a great honour for him to deliver a lecture at the ASPU.

Addressing the students, the professor said, “Do we bear any responsibility for the actions of our ancestors? The answer is, yes, we bear.”

“The concept of intergenerational moral responsibility is highly important in the context of globalization. One of the most important questions is how we perceive the crime,” said the professor.

During the lecture entitled “The crimes of our ancestors: Assumption of moral responsibility for the genocide consequences,” the professor spoke about the acknowledgement of moral responsibility in the aftermath of Genocide, stressing that people believe that with their current behaviour they cannot change what happened in the past: these are simply pompous words and a usual excuse. “We do not claim that Turks should change their history and past. Moral responsibility does not only refer to individuals; they should also bear responsibility for the present.”

In the name of the teaching staff and students, Georg Brutyan, Chairman of the International Scientific Institute of Metaphilosophy, Transformational Logic and Argumentation Theory, an academician of the RA National Academy of Sciences thanked the guest for the lecture and said he pins high hopes on the cooperation with Armen Marsoobian, the editor-in-chief of Metaphilosophy academic journal, a foreign member of Armenian Philosophical Academy.
