KHACHATUR ABOVYAN ARMENIAN STATE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY

Today, the Pedagogical University started the VII Russian Speech Days with an event dedicated to 200th anniversary of the prominent Russian writer, dramatist M.Y.Lermontov. 

The scientific and practical seminar on the subject of “M.Y.Lermontov; understanding and creativity issues” organized on the initiative of the Department of Foreign Literature was launched straight at the entrance hall; with the demonstration of photos of Lermontov the BA and MA students of the Russian Department introduced him to the guests of the Faculty and to those appreciating the writer’s art with great enthusiasm.

The official kick-off of the event was preceded by the performance of Lermontov’s novel “Выхожу один я на дорогу” (I am setting off alone). The ASPU Vice-Rector Ms. Srbouhi Gevorgyan first of all welcomed all those present after which referred to Lermontov’s literary heritage mentioning that even various outstanding writers of different periods had noticed that during the re-readings of the great Russian poet reconsideration of his works is not definite.

More to the point, remembering Lev Tolstoy’s, Pushkin’s, Aleksandr Griboedov’s characterizations of Lermontov, Ms. Srbouhi Gevorgyan noted that the most precise and briefest description of the author was given by Block considering Lermontov’s heritage the “flesh and blood” of Russian literature.

More to the point, the Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo in Armenia Ms. Natalya Yeryomenko happily noticed that among those participating in the scientific and practical seminar were both already renowned scientists and experienced pedagogues and those who have just initiated their professional activities, and who will deliver the depth and importance of Lermonotv’s works to various auditoriums.  

“The scientific and practical seminar dedicated to Lermontov’s anniversary is held on the writer’s birthday and it is very important that during the seminar, in addition to discussions of his works, parallels will be drawn between Lermontov and the Armenian culture, strengthening the intercultural dialogue”.

What is more, among the guests of the event also was the Dean of the Faculty of Culturology of the new Russian University Ms. Olga Ivanovna who did not hide how touching the romance performed by the Armenian student was, and proved that Lermontov is the bearer of the world culture outside time and space.

“Even in my age Lermontov seems young to me yet, but it is still surprising for me how that young man managed to develop something that requires biggest mind and spirit at the age of 20-25. The works he created are coming from the depth of centuries; each line is different but at the same time similar to the previous proving that human beings, life, love and death DO exist”.   

What is more, Olga Ivanovna presented the Department of Foreign Literature with a gift – the latest issue the journal “Translator’s World” prepared by Tranlsator’s Union together with the illustrated book about Moscow for pupils emphasizing that Lermontov himself is Moscow.

Further on, the guests were also greeted by the Head of the Department of Foreign Literature, Professor Rouzan Tadevosyan who assured that confession of Lermontov’s poetry and dramaturgy remains in the space of literature passing to the contemporaries and to the upcoming generations.

“The way Lermontov’s contemporaries spoke about the author was sometimes amusing, unpermitted, and disputable; however, the next generation could deeply feel the strong influence by Lermontov filled with the idea of passion, hostility, and love”.

As a matter of fact, the Head of Department was happy to notice that students are reading Lermontov’s compositions with great enthusiasm. Sometimes they are looking through one or two volumes in order to select a poem. Besides, the collection of scientific articles headed “M.Y. Lermontov: understanding and creativity issues” is prepared by joint efforts of both lecturers and applicants.

Likewise, particularly emphasizing the readings of Lermontov’s works, Ms. Rouzan Tadevosyan stressed out the fact that despite the mastery of reading, we are all with Lermontov today.

By the way, the initial literary reading of “Reading Lermontov” was entrusted to the Vice-Rector Srbouhi Gevorgyan, which was followed by the readings of the guests and all interested persons. 

The scientific and practical seminar activities on the subject “M.Y.Lermontov: understanding and creativity issues” continued in three sections: in the first section the Head of the Department of Foreign Literature Ms. Rouzan Tadevosyan introduced “Lermontov’s works; Armenian translations of the poem “Angel””, in the second section the Associate Professor of the same Department Ms. Stella Nuralova presented the “Study of Lermontov’s works at national schools within the context of intercultural dialogue” , then the assistant Ms. Christine Bejanyan presented “Lermontov’s Poems: the English translation of “ Sail””, and last but not least, in the third section Ms. Gayanei Vardazayan presented the “Translation of Lermontov’s “Mtsyri” translated by Levon Shant”, the Associate Professor Meline Gilavyan introduced “Lermontov in translations of Vahagn Davtyan”, and the assistant Inna Sarkisyan presented the “Armenian translations of the Carnival”.
