“No one is born a philosopher but everyone is philosophizing: It is a world of ideas, without which we cannot live. Even those who argue that philosophy is not a science are philosophizing,” Georg Brutian, Director of the International Research Institute of Metaphilosophy and Transformational Logic and Argumentation Theory, said on November 12 during an ASPU-hosted event dedicated to World Philosophy Day.
During the event, Mr Brutian handed over to ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan a certificate of antitle of "Honorary Member" of the Armenian Philosophical Academy.
“As they say in such cases I shall try to justify your hopes. I am grateful and happy that four years ago you accepted my invitation to come and work at Armenian State Pedagogical University. Serious changes have been made at the Department of Philosophy and Logic during these four years. The International Research Institute of Metaphilosophy and Transformational Logic and Argumentation Theory opened at the University which published “Imastutyun” (Wisdom) journal, an unprecedented international conference was organized by the Department. You are great and you are greatness in all issues,” Ruben Mirzakhanyan said addressing Academician Georg Brutian.
Doctor of Psychology, ASPU Vice-Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan said the celebration of the day in 77 countries is important for integrating the philosophy-society problem and bringing it to the system of values that will help modern society perceive the importance of Philosophy as the basis of sciences, its role and significance in the development and differentiation of sciences.
Hasmik Hovhannisyan, Head of the Department of Philosophy and Logic, said that according to a well-established tradition World Philosophy Day is marked at the University every year, enabling everyone to conduct a serious self-analysis and self-assessment.
The head of the Department underlined that Philosophy was revived at the Pedagogical University and the role of philosophical knowledge and philosophical reflections were reviewed and reassessed thanks to the ASPU Rector. “The philosophers working at the University are trying to justify our expectations and, relying on classical traditions, they try to stand above them and conduct lessons by new methods,” she said.
“Since the time of Aristotle it was said that all nations differ from one another according to the level of civilization, with the existence of philosophical thought being one of the most important indicators. Today we feel its need more than ever,” said Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, Deputy Director of the International Research Institute of Metaphilosophy and Transformational Logic and Argumentation Theory. He added that for centuries, Armenian people did not have a strong schools and directions of national philosophy and only had individual philosophers. But today a number of programs are being implemented thanks to the International Research Institute of Metaphilosophy and Transformational Logic and Argumentation Theory.
Within the framework of the event dedicated to the World Philosophy Day, ASPU also hosted Professor Kajik Ohanyan, Doctor of Philosophy, a corresponding member of the Armenian Philosophical Academy and Head of the Department of Sociology at Saint Petersburg State University of Economics.
The latter presented a report on “Methodology of Scientific Research” focusing on methodological problems, acquisition of new knowledge, its standards and the ensuing problems.
