Over 20 undergraduate students of the Faculty of Educational Psychology and Sociology majoring in Pedagogy and Psychology visited a military unit in Vayk in Vayots Dzor marz (province). The visit was organized by Hakob Tadevosyan, Candidate of Pedagogical Science, Associate Professor of the Department of Professional Education and Applied Pedagogy.

The road to the military unit runs parallel to Armenia’s border with Azerbaijan. On the way, Mr Tadevosyan showed the students the frontline and trenches which were only a few kilometers away from the roadway and explained the role and significance of barriers.

On the way, the group stopped at the Vazgen Sargsyan House-Museum where the students got acquainted with interesting episodes from the life and activity of the Armenian Sparapet (Commander).

In the military unit, the guests were received by Commander Colonel Samvel Poghosyan who readily spoke about the tasks of the military unit, presented the situation along the Line of Contact between Karabakh and Azerbaijani Armed Forces, presented the role of the military unit during the possible hostilities and the main functions of a military psychologist in a military unit, introduced the daily life of soldiers, as well as methods and peculiarities of the educational process.

The students also met with the military psychologist of the regiment, discussed the main directions of a military psychologist, forms, effects and characteristics of psychological impact, as well as possible difficulties. The military psychologist then cited examples from his own life.

The commander also emphasized the role of a psychologist in the army and personally accompanied the group around the military unit, familiarized them with the life of soldiers, their daily routine and living conditions, barracks and arsenal, the ongoing repair works and advantages of the new winter uniform.

The students were particularly impressed by the renovated barracks and dormitories, toilets and the nice and comfortable canteen.

The future military educators were equally surprised by the tasty dishes served in the canteen and the quality of food.

Talking to old.aspu.am, Hakob Tadevosyan emphasized the proper training of military psychologists in view of career management and emotional component which implies good knowledge about professional activities, workplaces and the military service in general. It will also help shape a positive attitude [towards one’s professional activities], patriotism and mood, and highlight the role of Motherland defenders.

“I am convinced that the visit arranged within the framework of “Military Pedagogy” course will help combine theoretical and practical components of the training process and the principle of unity. It role becomes even more important, given the applied nature of the military-pedagogical process,” Mr Tadevosyan added.
