The Faculty of Special Education of Armenian State Pedagogical University continues to expand the circle of partners with the aim of providing a more effective environment for internships.
Recently, Armine Avagyan, Dean of the Faculty of Special Education, Zhanna Palozyan, Head of the Department of Logopedics and Rehabilitation Therapy, and graduate students of the Faculty visited the Daycare and Rehabilitation Center operating at Armenak and Anna Tadevossian's Medical Center in Kosh community in Aragatsotn province. Besides conducting a practical lesson on Logaoedics at the newly-opened Center, the visit was also aimed at familiarizing students with the facilities of the Center and signing a memorandum.
The document signed between the ASPU and the Center envisages mutual support between the parties within the framework of programs implemented by the University-Employer Cooperation Center, as well as ongoing cooperation in providing employment and career advancement of ASPU graduate and postgraduate students, and in recruiting qualified specialists.
Under the document, the ASPU and the Center are to organize and hold conferences, workshops, symposiums, meetings, competitions, consultations and other events, and provide exchange of information.
Armine Avagyan was delighted to see that many specialists working at the Center are either graduates of the Faculty of Special Education or are still studying at the University.
“The demand for special education professionals is increasing today due to the high level of public awareness. The demand has always been around and is expected to increase more in the future,” she said adding that public attitudes have changed and more people are turning to special educators these days as they trust their professional capacities.
The dean of the Faculty promised the MA students to do everything possible to help them in finding jobs. At the same time, she added that the alumni directory is constantly updated, becoming a kind of ‘intermediary’ between employers and graduates.
The parties signing the memorandum also expressed hope that the cooperation will be long-lasting and will expand in the future. Also, an agreement was reached to organize internships of Faculty students at the Center.
Lilit Vahanyan and Lusine Altunyan, graduate students of the Faculty of Special Education, were employed by the Center after winning recruitment competitions.
Lilit Vahanyan confesses that at first she encountered difficulties because of lack of experience, but after overcoming difficulties she became convinced that she had not been mistaken in the choice of profession. She advises ASPU students to study well and try to take the maximum from lecturers since only effective learning and assiduous work can produce the desired results.
In her turn, Lusine Altunyan said she had been interested in the problems of children with speech disorders since childhood.
Today she works at the Center as a speech therapist and is thrilled [at times] with little success: the words of gratitude and appreciation she hears from parents convince her every time that she has chosen the right career path for her.
