18.12.2014

“Reading seems to be ignored and pushed into the background in the 21st century but I assure you that the world of books is rich and I promise to honour and uphold the title of “Best Reader,” Misha Tadevosyan, a student of the Faculty of Educational Psychology and Sociology, winner of ASPU Best Reader 2014 award, said on December 18 during the solemn event held at the University.

The annual Best Reader Award ceremony was held at the ASPU Academic Library. This year the event was celebrated for the fifth time in a row. The traditional ceremony started with the blessing of a priest and the Lord's Prayer as was the first ceremony celebrated five years ago. Recently, a book has been published that contains photos of ASPU best students in the past five years.

In his speech, ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan emphasized the importance of the ceremony saying the quality of each university is determined by its libraries and the number of readers. “Our visitors and guests always express their admiration for our overcrowded reading halls. As time passes the number of readers remains the same, which proves that books remain popular among readers,” he said.

“The world of books is a unique space that belongs to our students at the University,” Director of the Academic Library Tigran Petrosyants said. He stressed that the number of readers has not decreased in five years which is also due to the policy of the University administration which is aimed at expanding the number of readers.
