“Chess is life. It is a great and wonderful world. We are proud that we can play chess and we hope that we shall be able to continue the achievements of our Olympic champions,” 3rd and 4th year pupils of ASPU Primary School N57 said on Monday during an event held at the school. They are convinced that victory is not for sale.
During the event entitled “Information about Chess,” the pupils presented the history of chess and its spread across Armenia, as well as achievements of Armenian chess players in different years.
With the help of a poster headed “Our Chess Heroes” and a video, the pupils introduced the glorious victories in the history of Armenian chess, presenting the results of individual and team games.
The pupils also presented chess as an art, science and sport and stressed that chess gives each person an opportunity to create, explore and compete and instills the belief that chess develops the skill of thinking before each step.
Naira Toghanyan, Principal of ASPU Primary School N57, and Ashot Galstyan, Head of the Department of Mother Tongue and its Teaching Methods after Ashot Ter-Grigoryan, hailed the event and said it was both interesting and instructive.
Chess teacher Arsine Minasyan was glad that the event made it possible to break the stereotype among parents that teaching chess at school is not effective as it puts extra burden on children. She stressed that children like to play chess and do it very actively.
