The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia and the National Library of Armenia have published the statistical and analytical volume “Armenian Libraries in 2013” which presents, in separate sections, data on 15 libraries in Armenia.
As in the previous three years, the Academic Library of Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan has again been ranked first among university libraries with its man indicators – the number of readers and circulation of printed materials.
The APSU Academic Library also ranks first among public libraries according to its circulation and is third according to the number of readers, yielding the first two positions to the academic libraries of the National Library of Armenia and National Academy of Sciences.
Head of the ASPU Academic Library Tigran Petrosyants says this is a great achievement for the Pedagogical University and adds that the reading halls [opened in the University] have brought readers closer to professional literature.
“Students do not have to order books in advance. They receive them within the shortest possible time and their request is never rejected by librarians,” he said adding that freshmen can already receive professional literature via e-mail.
Tigran Petrosyants stresses that the Library keeps pace with IT developments in an attempt to combine books and modern thinking. The computers in the reading halls already contain electronic database of over 2500 books in 70 specialities.
Speaking about the Library’s activities planned for 2015, Tigran Petrosyants stressed that the Library will participate in the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. In particular, the University will organize lectures, exhibitions of thematic books, etc.
“We shall continue the good traditions started in the University in the previous years trying to strengthen the link between the Library and students,” said Mr Petrosyants.
