Future Biochemists Visit the Pedagogical
20.02.2015

Today, the 1th grade students of the biochemistry flow of the high-school N83 after Hambardzum Galstyan visited the Pedagogical University, the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography.

Within the framework of this visit, the pupils conducted a practical work i.e. with the postgraduates’ support they made experiments of preparing ethyl acetate and other chemical material.

“The experiment conducted at the University’s laboratory and the students excitement allows us to think that the visit will to some extent contribute to having an increased interest towards chemistry,” the teacher of Chemistry accompanying the students mentioned during her conversation with the old.aspu.am, at the same time highlighting that very often school laboratory conditions do not have the opportunities of practicing the theoretical knowledge discussed during the lesson.

The 11th grade student Vergine Torosyants has decided to become a doctor but still she is impressed and happy about this visit to the Pedagogical University; on this occasion she not only got familiarized with the University itself, but also fulfilled her ideas of chemical experiments within a single practical lesson.

“If we had the same conditions at schools, there would be great interest among the students towards the science of Chemistry; we cannot learn everything from books,” mentioned the same class student Robert Papyan, who visited also the ASPU museum and was particularly impressed with it.

““What would they like to see?”; the teachers suggest, the faculty staff organizes, the postgraduates and the high-school students fulfill”, assures the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography Svetlana Hovakimyan, adding that due to mutual visits, open criticism lessons and demonstrations the university-school connection strengthen, which in its turn not only helps the students todetermine their professional orientation but also creates more interest toward the science of Chemistry.

Moreover, Svetlana Hovakimyan considers that there are numerous sources to get theoretic knowledge on Chemistry from, while practical activities cannot be carried out everywhere; the younger generations need new opportunities and conditions.

At the end of the visit the guest also visited the University’s museum and got familiarized with the history and chronology of the ASPU.
