“Printed press is irreplaceable with its content, great opportunities and deep analysis; it had unique role and meaning which is preserved until today, in the digitalization era”, mentioned the ASPU Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan during the event organized on the 50th anniversary of the official newsletter and added “During different years the “Pedagogical University” newspaper had different names but it has always been and it continues to be the reflector of all activities happening at the University. You can judge upon the newspaper what stages of development the ASPU has gone through during the 50 years”.
The “Pedagogical University” official newspaper is 50 years old. The establishment of the newspaper was a great event at the University. The first issue was published on 11 March 1965; its first editor was the renowned linguist Petros Bediryan, who was then the alumnus of the Armenian Pedagogical Institute.
During the event organized today on the jubilee of the newspaper, its editors of different years were present; among them was the Chairwoman of the Armenian Union of Journalists Ms. Astghik Gevorgyan, the editor –in-chief of the “Hayastan” newspaper Mr. Tigran Nikoghosyan, together with the faculty of the University and other guests.
Within the scope of this initiative, the Rector of the University granted the “Pedagogical University” medal to the previous editors of the newspaper Mr. Petros Bediryan, Ms. Shoushan Danoyan, Ms. Gohar Asirbekyan as well as Ms. Silva Asryan who has been the editor-in-chief since 2003.
In his turn, the first editor-in –chief of the newspaper Mr. Petros Bediryan can recall the difficult conditions of printing and assures that the publication of each issue was like a childbirth.
“The Pedagogical University was like a feeding mother for me; it was extremely hard for me to leave the University”, mentions Mr. Petros Bediryan adding that the University has been like a home until this day.
Further on, the Vice Rector of the University Ms. Srbouhi Gevorgyan observed that while going through the printed media of the University one could feel like going through the history of the University. It is a chronology reflecting numerous eminent pedagogue- scientists’ works, the cultural activities of the University, and students’ daily life.
“Constantly being in the hub of events in the life and time of the University, the newspaper has become the unique yearbook of all the events liaising the history of various generations of students and lecturers”.
In addition, the Chairwoman of the Armenian Union of Journalists Ms. Astghik Gevorgyan did not conceal that the Pedagogical University newspaper had its glorious role in the history of Armenian press. Besides, she expressed her hope and desire that the only university bi-weekly newspaper would soon become a weekly press.
Moreover, the Chairwoman of the Armenian Union of Journalist awarded the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Ms. Silva Asryan with the highest “Loyal to profession” medal of the union.
“She believes that the publication of each issue is a result of creative human mind and efforts. She hoped that the newspaper would remain the yearbook of the native University and would step towards the new centuries of changing generations”, Ms. Silva Asryan mentioned in her interview to the old.aspu.am.
To conclude, the editor-in-chief of the “Hayastan” newspaper Mr. Tigran Nikoghosyan, the Dean of the Faculty of History and Law Mr. Edgar Hovhannissyan, the Director of the Academic Library Mr. Tigran Petrosyan, the ASPU Department of Native language and its teaching methods after Ashot Ter-Grigoryan Mr. Ashot Galstyan, and Professor Julietta Gyulamiryan also expressed congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the Pedagogical University’s official newspaper.
