“There is a lot of sorrow in the world, but with whom can I compare the greatest sorrow of my small nation so that my hart calms down?”
Today, the première of the performance “Dante -15” was held at the Faculty of Culture hall.
The fourth year students of the Department of TV Direction, under the supervision of the Professor Aida Hovhannissyan, presented the “Armenian Dante” accompanied by musical pieces selected by the director and aesthetic reflections of symbolism.
“The Genocide; what April, what spring when the hearts of Armenian people are filled with blood”. Massacre- genocide, slaughter, ethnic cleansing –extermination, gibbet, a million and a half Jesuses hanging on the tree, Komitas reading the dirge with the words “Lord have a mercy”, mothers having gone mad seeing their slaughtered sons, and the major question to the rest of the world, “Why are you keeping silence? Don’t we deserve it? Can’t you even properly mourn the loss of people?”
The Professor is assured that the performance is one more chance for students to express their thoughts, complaints, civil attitude toward the notion of the “Genocide”.
“Future art critics must realize that art is the link between the God and humanity, accordingly, those serving for the sake of art must be maximum honest, pure and frank”.
The director of the “Dante 15” Ms. Aida Hovhannissyan added that they had worked over the performance for around 9 months; in fact, providentially or coincidentally, it is similar to childbirth.
“There is a lot of sorrow in the world, but with whom can I compare the greatest sorrow of my small nation so that the dreadful judgment comes true, that no other nation ever faces Genocide?” This poetic question was addressed to the humanity at the end of the performance by the young directors; while the closing of the event, just like the whole process of the performance was accompanied by symbolism and the hope that the Armenian books will be written not on sand but on the forehead of the Mount Ararat.
The hall burst with standing applauds welcoming the directors and the actors work.
We would also like to mention that with their performance of “The Dante 15” the fourth year students of the TV direction will be staging performances bot h in a number of the cities of Armenia and the immense community of Armenians in Rostov-upon-Don.
In fact, today, on 27 March, the whole world is celebrating the International Theater Day.
At the Faculty of Art this day became particularly memorable for the premiere of “The Dante-15”.
