Consultations with the Heads of Departments
01.04.2015

Today, the Rector of the Pedagogical University Rouben Mirzakhanyan held a consultation meeting with the Heads of Departments; actually this kind of meetings will from now on be held on a regular basis- every month.

The Rector observed that there were a number of issues which concerned the Rector’s office and these meetings would foster discussions thereof, exchange ideas and suggestions.

The first issue on the agenda concerning open discussion classes was presented by the Head of the Educational and Methodological Department, Vice Rector Mher Melik-Bakhshyan.

“Accordance to the current criteria of the calculation of the volume of learning activities, the fifty hours included into the workload of the University Heads of Departments are foreseen for open hearing classes. Nevertheless, control-checks conducted by us and the University’s internal audit show that not all Departments hold open discussion classes”, the Vice Rector turned to those present and added that the aim of the open discussion lessons was to draw the attention on strengths and weaknesses of the lecturers, guide them, assist the young lecturers in managing the auditorium and constructing the lesson, etc.

Moreover, Mher Melik-Bakhshayn recommended to organize open discussion lessons, invite young lecturer, at least once a semester organize a discussion lesson with each lecturer, involve the corresponding Methodist, and in case of a necessity also to involve students.

Likewise, the latter highlighted the regular consultations about f the results of  open discussion lessons, developing the required format of mutual discussion lessons and those held by the Head of Department, creating the video archive of exemplary lectures, uploading them on the University website and their usage in distant learning courses.

“This is an effective form of work that should be deprived of extreme approaches, bear a practical nature contributing to the correction of weaknesses”, the Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan added.

Further on, the Heads of Departments made their suggestions about the given issue; in his turn the Head of the University promised to get down to the fulfillment of the proposals as soon as he received them in written form.

Afterwards, the Vice Rector for Education Quality and Distant Learning Tigran Ayvazyan reported about the accreditation of the University. He introduced the institutional accreditation and working schedule, institutional self-analyses, availability of the Deans’ specifications, the data base at the Dean’s offices and Department, and about the meetings foreseen during the experts’ visits.

Similarly, the Vice Rector referred to the preparatory process of course descriptions at the Departments outlining that there were Departments that had drawbacks and gaps therein.

To conclude, the last issue on the agenda of the consultancy meeting referring to the final qualification examinations 2015 was reported by Rouben Mirzakhanyan.

Speaking about the organization of final examinations, the Rector noticed that together with positive traditions they often came across negative elements; it is unacceptable when students having no proper level of knowledge become graduates and develop pedagogical activities.

Once again the Rector emphasized that a number of measures had been taken in that direction one of which were the regular meetings with students that aimed not only to identify the problems but also to urge them to confide only on their own knowledge.

“The Deans and the Heads of Departments bear the whole responsibility of holding graduation exams. When students try to find alternatives and receive marks, the specialists, education quality improvement, the efforts to maintain a friendly atmosphere in the course of the final qualification examinations, organization of consultancy meetings all vanish jeopardizing the determinations aimed at increasing the reputation of the University’s faculty,.

And last but not least, the Rector urged the Heads of Departments to highlight new issues to discuss them at the consultancy meeting at the following month.
