International Day for Monuments and Sites at the Pedagogical
20.04.2015

Within the scope of the International Day for Monuments and Sites an event headed “Cultural Genocide” was held at the ASPU jointly organized by the Pedagogical University, the “Service for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Reserve-Museums and Historical Environment” SNCO and the House Museum of Aram Khachaturyan.

On the International Day for Monuments and Sites one more event took place at the University dedicated to the centennial of the Armenian Genocide; the University welcomed the poet Vazgen Asatryan (Ushi). The biography and collection of his books was introduced by the proofreader Zarouhi Mkhikyan.

Vazgen Asatryan was born in the Asatryans family of immigrants from Bitlis and Van in 1934; his family survived the Genocide and settled in the village Ushi, in Ashtarak region. When choosing a literary pseudonym the poet did not go far from his roots and adopted the pseudonym Ushi.

The latest collection of the author of 6 books, which is named “100 years of squeal”, similar to the previous ones, is imbued with patriotism, humanism, friendliness; he feels pain in the heart when tells the stories he heard from his grandparents and ancestors about the cruel path, the inhumane tortures, critical times and the deprivations.

“I hope that sooner or later our relic will be liberated and released, the obstacles between us will vanish and we will be able to see the holy Massis from the other side. My latest collection is a standing monument of the victims of 1915 where photos of this happening taken in different countries are depicted.  I have a deep pain to see our day’s emigration; we need to be tolerant, endure the difficulties, not leave our homeland and hope that one day Armenia will become a heavenly country,” Vazgen Ushi mentioned during the meeting.

On this occasion, a video about the monuments of the Western Armenia was shown afterwards, and the choir of the Yerevan School N99 which visited the University, accompanied by the ASPU alumnus Agapi Madoyan, performed musical pieces on the author’s poems.

Following the meeting with the writer, the film “Vandalism” was shown in the presence of its authors Ashots Movsesyan and Spartak Gharabaghtsyan.

We would like to remind that the first show of the film at the university took place at the Pedagogical University a few months ago.

And last but not least, on the International Day for Monuments and Sites, a virtual exhibition headed “Medieval Monuments of Armenia” was opened at the ASPU Museum. The exhibition is open until May.
