Today the faculty of the Pedagogical University, students, the teaching staff and pupils of the ASPU Base (High-School) College and the ASPU School N57 after Vahan Totovents visited the Tsitsernakaberd memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
About 5000 people from the University after Khachatur Abovyan participated in the march, laid a wreath on the monument perpetuating the memory of 1.5 million of Armenians killed in the Ottoman Turkey from 1915-1923.
“Remember and Demand”, “We Demand Indemnity”, “Genocide has no laps of time”- pedagogues were holding trilingual posters with similar claiming expressions urging to restore the facts of previous century and to believe in justice that Turkey will acknowledge the crime committed towards Armenians.
The participant of the march- the Dean of the Pedagogical University’s Faculty of History and Law Mr. Edgar Hovhannisyan notices that besides the importance of acknowledgement of the Genocide for the Armenian nation, it is also a new qualitative phase of the international acknowledgment thereof.
“The Mass offered by the Roman Pope and the admission of the Genocide formula by the European Parliament formed new standards in international acknowledgement; denying the Genocide is the same as denying not only the viewpoint of Armenia and the actual happening, but also refusing the approaches of authoritative persons and institutions.”
Moreover, the historian is sure that the centenary of the Genocide shall be a new and a more realistic start for the Armenian nation, so that it is acknowledge by the whole humanity and Turkey, in particular, which committed the crime.
Emphasizing the importance of the march organized by the Pedagogical University Mr. Edgar Hovhannisyan mentioned that the new generation participated in it, the generation which is the qualitative bearer of the new fight- the future pedagogues are the ones educating people with new principles and taking up the fair fight of people.
Another participant of the march, the graduate of the ASPU Base High-School College Norayr Shoghikyan assures that they will not only pay the tribute to the victims, but they will also fight and demand from Turkey and international public to accept the Armenian Genocide and to restore the historical facts.
In his turn, the Head of Department of Politology and History of Law, Professor Levon Shirinyan considered the march dedicated to the centenary of the Genocide symbolic.
“A century passed which seemed to be the generalization of the covered path and guiding for the future. The policy implemented by the Christian world is unprecedented and exceptional; the world has joined the sorrow of Armenia, became more honest and took up a new value system of moral and political consciousness. This is a new fact in the cultural consciousness and humanitarian law. The Christian world that was previously resistant and unaware of the facts, seems to become concerned, highlights the meaning and evaluates the history that was ignored and distorted during a whole century”.
To sum up, Levon Shirinyan added that the claim of Armenian nation is to return native lands and culture, and the march of thousands of people organized by the Pedagogical University is the duty of each and every person, the evidence.
