The social committee and the debate club of the Students Council of the Pedagogical University arranged a social debate-discussion headed “Abortion or Orphanage?” .

The Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology, and the Faculty of Special Education participated in the discussion; they aimed to inform the students about the negative physical and moral consequences of taking children to orphanages and pregnancy abortion.
The students of the Faculty of Special education introduced the general characteristics of the artificial removal of the fetal, the reasons, statistic data, and negative consequences.
The sophomore of the Faculty of Special Education Anoush Aleqsanyan thinks that the struggle against the artificial removal of the fetal will go on as long as women do not realize its bad consequences and do not bear responsibility for that action. “There are various reasons for abortion: keeping to traditions, being misinformed, diverse social reasons, but the saddest thing is when they make an abortion after finding out the female sex of the child,” Anoush Aleqsanyan added.
Likewise, the student of the same course Nanar Avetsiayn spoke about the attitude of Church towards abortions;
“It was in all times, and the church always considered both the abortion and the usage of contraception to avoid pregnancy a sin. People have lost their fear of God.”
In addition, this group informed those present that according to the RA law article 10, paragraph 5 on “Human Reproductive Health”, before and after the abortion of the first pregnancy women receive free psychological and medical aid.
Upon concluding their speech, the Faculty of Special Education suggested at least avoiding undesirable pregnancy by using modern safe contraception.
The group of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology referred to the most vulnerable group- the orphanage children.

The number of children deprived of parental care is annually increasing. Having studied the psychological-pedagogical characteristics of the orphanage children, they came up with an idea that these children have this or that kind of physical or psychological disorders of mental retardation, sexual identification disorder, drunkenness and delinquency addiction. Thus, considerable importance is given to the child’s lifestyle, full and healthy food, creation of chances of communication and association.
From that point of view, the students particularly emphasized the complications the children of orphanage face while associating with the society such as aggression, being self-contained and nervous tension.
Moreover, considering abortion and the alternative of giving the child to the orphanage unacceptable, the group members arrived at a conclusion that all parents should be informed and responsible for their steps and actions, and realize that a child is a God’s gift, and that one mustn’t kill it unborn or pass it to an orphanage.
The debates were marked with the presence of the Deans of the participating Faculties, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor Srbouhi Gevorgyan, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Armenuhi Avagyan, and the Director of the orphanage “Mary Izmiryan”, Professor of the Pedagogical University Hasmik Mkrtchyan.
By the end of the debate the audience asked their questions about the topic.
