ASPU students participate in event dedicated to ASALA
14.05.2015

First-year students of the Faculty of Primary Education majoring in Pedagogy and Methodology (Elementary Education) today participated in an event dedicated to the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia (ASALA).

During the event organized by Candidate of Historical Science Armine Yeprikyan, the students presented the history of ASALA, its formation and anti-Turkish actions and stressed that ASALA aimed at compelling the Turkish Government to acknowledge publicly its responsibility for the Armenian Genocide in 1915 and calling the attention of ‘blind and deaf’ world to the Armenian Cause. “ASALA militants were fighting to force Turkey to cede Armenian territories and acknowledge responsibility for the crime it committed in the 20th century. They hoped to raise the Armenian issue on the international level and discuss it in political and legal circles. They hoped that the international community would recognize the Armenian Genocide masterminded and perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire in 1914-1923, thereby creating conditions for the liberation of Western Armenia,” said the students.

The students also spoke about the trial of militants who participated in “Van” operation and showed videos on the subject.

The event wrapped up with “Papuri” folk dance. The future educators said in their closing speech that each Armenian should stand firm on his sacred soil and preserve his national values.
