This year, Armenian State Pedagogical University has joined the events marking International Museum Day [celebrated annually on May 18] for the third consecutive year.
Within the framework of Museums at Night initiative, the ASPU Museum in cooperation with the Department of Design and Decorative Applied Arts [Faculty of Art Education] and Teryan Cultural Centre organized sewing and craft masterclass, revealing the secrets of sewing art and techniques of Ayntab, Urfa and Marash.
"Masunk" Folk Song and Dance Ensemble presented a concert program at the ASPU Museum, performing wedding and patriotic songs and dances from Western Armenia and other Armenian-populated regions as witnesses and testimony of the Armenian Genocide.
Also, an exhibition entitled “100-year-old Embroidered Memory” organized at the ASPU Museum as part of events commemorating the Armenian Genocide centennial was open until midnight. Among the exhibited items, one could see clothing and accessories embroidered by Armenian women, who migrated from Western Armenia and settled in Syria.
The events organized within the framework of International Museum Day wrapped up with a visit of representatives from universities, museum-institutes and academic staff to the ASPU Museum.
The aim of the visit organized by the Armenian National Committee of International Council of Museums (ICOM) and Armenian Association of Museum Workers and Friends was to get acquainted with the Museum staff, learn about the activities, implemented work and future plans of the Museum.
The visit was followed by a roundtable discussion entitled “Problems and prospects of universities, academies and museum-institutes in the Republic of Armenia.” During the discussion, the Museum representatives presented their concerns, discussed future activities and avenues for cooperation.
