“To know one’s homeland better one needs to ascend its peaks”
26.05.2015

The Faculty of History and Law of Armenian State Pedagogical University marked the 2nd anniversary of the Mountaineering Club [that features students of the Faculty] with a photography exhibition.

The members of the Club, who have already ascended the peaks of Sharayi Lerr  (Mountain), Arayi Lerr, Armaghan, Hatis, Aragats, Loki, Lalvar, Azhdahak, Arteni, Teghenis and other mountains, are future historians. They joined, with great desire and willingness, the initiative to ascend various peaks in the Armenian Highland with the aim of thoroughly studying and recognizing their homeland.

“Armenia is truly an open-air museum, and one needs to look down on it from heaven,” said Khachatur Stepanyan, the founder of the Mountaineering Club, Associate Professor at the Chair of Armenian History. He added that the Club would realize its ultimate goal and eventually ascend one hundred summits in Armenia; mountaineering has become a lifestyle for Club members.

Each mountain climbing expedition and base camp trek strengthens healthy lifestyle, friendship and other qualities among mountaineers, becoming a model for others. The principles of student mountaineers are so inspiring and contagious that students from different faculties join the Club in its endeavour to climb different peaks.

“The expeditions open a new Armenia before us. To know one’s homeland better one needs to climb different peaks,” said Edgar Hovhannisyan, Dean of the Faculty of History and Law. He stressed the importance of the Club from two perspectives: first, it is one of the best ways to organize backup activities; second, it is of great importance for educators in their mission of nurturing patriotism and promoting national unity among future generations.
