The mountaineering club “One Hundred Peaks,” which operates within the Faculty of History and Law, has come up with another interesting initiative.
The club members celebrated First Republic Day [marked annually on May 28] on the peak of Gndasar which is on the border between Gegharkunik and Vayots Dzor marzes (provinces), on the southern point of the Geghama Mountains.

This is the 12th peak ascended by about 30 members of the Club who intend to climb one hundred summits in Armenia. The students started out from the village of Hors in Vayots Dzor.
On the way, the group sang patriotic songs, heard a lecture on Armenia’s Independence. Getting to Gndasar (2947 m) their admired the beauty of Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik, Ararat Valley, Nakhijevan, Ararat and Vana Lich (Van Lake) from atop the mountain.

The Club members stressed importance to the initiative, saying it was a unique way to celebrate May 28 – First Republic Day.
