From 19-21 June, the folk ensemble “Arev” of the Pedagogical University, Faculty of Culture, Department of Music participated in the 2nd open Caucasus Championship held in Yerevan.

Led by the Associate Professor the Department of Music Sevada Shboyan, the band performed Khachatur Avetisyan’s “Qaravan” and other folk songs during the festival –competition, where they were awarded the Grand-Pix.

“This was the first time the “Arev” participated in a competition; the band was particularly happy and excited not so much for the prize, rather about the communication with musicians that had arrived from 10 different countries, for getting acquainted with their art and having exchange of experience”, Sevada Shhoyan mentioned in his interview to the old.aspu.am.

Likewise, he noticed that all participants were worthy competitors, but the band was particularly impressed with the performance of the participants from Iran in the 2nd open Caucasus Championship, the latter presented the composition “Sari Gyal” by Komitas not knowing that it is Armenian.
