“Over the years, I have made speeches at the auditoriums of different universities of the world but today I feel embarrassed and constrained because I have great admiration and respect for pedagogy and educational system. Specialties are acquired from different universities but there is one university, the Pedagogical University, which perpetuates the nation with professional teachers,” Galust Sahakyan, Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Chairman of the ASPU Council, said at the University on June 24.
The Parliament Speaker personally handed out diplomas to the 20 best graduates of the 2014-2015 academic year.
Congratulating the students and teaching staff of the University, Mr Sahakyan stressed that it is a great and noble duty to educate a generation, educate an Armenian and create a polite society. “This is my milieu. These graduates have joined the ranks of people who will realize the eternal goals of our nation. I am convinced that you will continue to learn and teach, deepening and doubling your knowledge in the environment of young people who have an earnest desire to learn,” he said.
Hasmik Hovsepyan, an undergraduate student of the Faculty of Philology, thanked the Chairman of the ASPU Council on behalf of the University graduates. She said it was one of the best and most memorable days of their life, a day that will be remembered as a beautiful memory of student years. “Exactly four years ago, I took an oath to walk in a manner worthy of the calling I received – an ASPU student. Today, I can confidently say that I stayed true to that oath, demonstrating excellent performance during the years of study at the University. I acquired [at the University] professional skills, knowledge, necessary resources, friends with whom I have overcome many difficulties and, of course, beloved lecturers form whom I took both professional lessons and lessons for life. These lessons will help me throughout my life,” she said and promised to uphold the reputation of Armenian State Pedagogical University that bears the name of the great illuminator and educator [Khachatur Abovyan].
David Davtyan, a graduate of the Faculty of Culture who got a Master’s degree from the ASPU, says he is happy to have graduated from the Pedagogical University. David works as a journalist and says it was a great honour for him to be able to overcome a number of difficulties and combine work with studies. “I think I could justify the hopes and expectations of my family members, colleagues and professors. The Diploma with Honours gives me additional strength to share with others the lessons I have learnt at the Pedagogical University, to help with my modest contribution to the development of the University so that it can have its unique place in the European educational system,” he said.
The solemn ceremony of diploma awarding at the University was followed by a festive concert. Vardan Badalyan, Arsen Grigoryan, Hamlet Gevorgyan and many others performed songs to the accompaniment of the State Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Armenia headed by Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Norayr Davtyan.
