May marks numerous and meaningful victories for the Armenian nation. Today, on 9 May, we are celebrating the 67th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, also the

20th anniversary of the Shushi liberation. Besides, this very day also solemnizes the creation of the Karabakh Defense Army.
Like every year, this year, too, the war veterans, the Artsakh war participants and common citizens hurried to the «Haghtanak» Park /the Park of Victory/ to commemorate the war victims.
The lecturer-professorial team of the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan together with the students and the veteran of the Great Patriotic War, under the leadership of the University Chancellor Rouben Mirzakhanyan first of all laid a wreath at the monument of the Artsakh War heroes, after which they went to the «Haghtanak» Park.
In addition, they laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame, bowed their heads and held a minute of silence to honour the memory of the victims.
One of the veterans of the Patriotic war, David Saribekyan is a mathematician. He used to work at the Pedagogical University for many years. In 1943 he went to the front and served in the gun military unit. He stayed there for two years then, after getting injured, he returned to his motherland but already with a victory.
As he mentions, every year he doesn't get a wink of sleep the night before the 9 May. He is looking forward to this day to meet his military friends and to recall the past and at least mentally to get the pleasure of their victory.
Unfortunately, he is rather sorry that they do not remember the participants of the war more often and outlines the vulnerable problem for them concerning the low pensions and the non-welfare financial position.
Another war veteran, Gohar Goudaghyan, turned 90 today. But still she can remember every episode of the war in details.
As she mentions she was not a simple nurse at the front which was pretty common among the other women; then she adds with pride that as a machine-gunner she exploded numerous German missiles.
She can still recall the moment when the commander gave a hug to her and announced of the victory and the news about returning home.

Afterwards, the Dean of the Faculty of History and Law, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Edick Gevorgyan pointed out the importance of the fact that the people do not forget to celebrate their great victories and every year, in dense crowds they show their gratitude to the memory of the brave sons of service.
«May is the month of victories for the Armenian nation. First of all I mean the May wars of 1918, then the victory in the Great Patriotic War, and one of the most heroic episodes of the Armenian history- the Shushi liberation in the Artsakh war”.
Moreover, the historian is sure that the Pedagogical University in particular has an immense role and a lot to do in the appreciation of the idea of the state.
«As a Pedagogical University, we continuously infuse the sense of patriotism in the coming generations, we regularly organize patriotic events, and through the history classes we remind them of the heroic episodes of history», Edick Gevorgyan added.
